Power BI is an analytics platform from Microsoft that allows users to import, process, and visualize data from multiple sources. Connect Power BI with Albato to integrate it with over 1000+ apps, including AI tools like ChatGPT and Gemini. Follow the steps below to set it up.

Step-by-step instructions
Step 1. Name your connection in Albato
- Log in to your Albato account.
2. Go to the Apps section and click Add a connection.
3. Search for Power BI, select it, and click Add a connection again.
4. Name your connection.
Step 2. Create Azure AD app

To get your credentials, log in to your Azure Portal in a new tab.

Click the gear icon in the upper-right corner to open Portal settings, then go to the Directories + Subscriptions tab. Then, copy the Directory (tenant) ID — this is your Application directory ID.
- Then, go to Azure Active Directory → App registrations → New registration and create a new application.
- Enter the application name and choose an account type (for example, Accounts in this organizational directory only).

In the Redirect URI field, enter https://r.albato.com/oauth/back/state.

Click Register to create the app.
After clicking Save, you will see the Application ID and its catalog. Copy these parameters, they are the ones you need for the fields in the Albato personal cabinet. Application ID is for the App client ID field and Directory ID for the Application catalog ID field.
Step 3. Add API permissions for Power BI
- Open the API permissions section and click Add a permission.
- Choose **Microsoft APIs → Power BI Service. For example, if you do not plan to perform authorization to access the Power BI Rest API, select Delegated permissions.
- Check the boxes for the following permissions:
- Dataset.ReadWrite.All;
- Gateway.Read.All;
- Pipeline.Read.All;
- Workspace.Read.All.
- Complete the setup by clicking the Add Permissions button at the bottom of the page. The newly added permission will appear in the list of configured permissions.
Step 4. Create client secret (App client secret)
- In the left menu, go to Certificates & secrets → Client secrets, then click New client secret.
- Add a description and expiration period, then click Add.
- Copy the generated secret — this is your App client secret.
- Go to the Power BI Admin portal and enable necessary API options.
Note: Without this step, you will not be able to connect or work with data.
- Return to Albato and paste your Application directory ID, App client ID, and App client secret into the connection fields. Click Continue.
