How to Set Up Alerts in Different Apps When a Client Opens or Responds to Your Emails from Lemlist
IN THIS ARTICLE
If you use Lemlist to run email outreach campaigns, you know that follow-up visibility matters — seeing which contacts opened a message, replied, or went silent tells you where to focus next.
Checking results manually after each send is not practical, and it means your team often finds out about engagement too late to act.
Albato connects the two — every time a Lemlist email is opened or replied to, a notification goes out via Slack or Gmail automatically.
Connecting the Apps to Albato
The first step before creating your automation is to ensure that all the apps you will use in this automation are connected in Albato.
If you’re not sure, just go to the Apps tab on the platform and search in the left-hand menu.

If you don’t find the desired connection, click Add a Connection, search for the app, and follow the instructions that appear.
In this guide, as an example, we will use connections with Lemlist, Slack, Gmail, and Google Sheets.
Once all apps are connected, we can proceed to creating the automation.
How to Create Your Automation
Click on the Automations tab, then click Create New Automation:

In the first step of your automation, we will set the trigger. In other words, which action in LemList should occur for the alerts to be sent.

Here you can choose different options, for example, when an email is opened, clicked, replied to, or failed to send.
As an example, we will use Email Opened:

If you want to monitor more than one of these actions, that’s totally possible. You just need to create one automation for each desired trigger. The instructions that follow are the same; the only difference will be in this step of selecting the trigger.
The next step is to add the desired alerts.
We’ll start with Slack.
Click to add a new action:

Select the action to send a message to a user or to a specific channel:

At this step, first choose the User ID or Channel ID, depending on the action selected. This parameter is mandatory and can be selected from the list when you click the field.
Next, in the Unformatted text message, write the message you want, combining manually written fixed values with dynamic values that will vary, such as the email of the client who opened the sent message.

After clicking Save, we’ll add the Gmail step:

Select the Gmail app, then the action Send Email:

Just like in the previous Slack step, we will configure the information needed to send the email, such as the sender, recipient, and message content.
In the Recipient (to) field, enter the email address that should receive the notification.
In the Sender (from) field, select the same email used to create the connection by clicking the field and choosing it from the list.
Fill out the other fields, such as Subject and Email Body, for example:

After clicking Save, you will have configured an alert via email and Slack whenever an email sent through Lemlist is opened.
Creating a Spreadsheet for Tracking
As an additional step, we’ll create a database using Google Sheets to help track metrics for this Lemlist campaign.
First, create a spreadsheet in Google Sheets and add the columns you want to track, such as campaign name, lead email, lead phone number, and more.
Next, in Albato, add the step Create/update Row in a spreadsheet, then select the spreadsheet you just created and the desired sheet/tab.

Now just fill in the columns, mapping which information about this lead who opened the Lemlist email should be saved and where, for example:

At the end, your automation will look like this:

Now just activate the automation, and you will have a fully automated process for open email alerts.
Repeat these steps for other events you want to track in Lemlist, as mentioned earlier, such as replied emails, failed emails, and others.
Now you can receive instant alerts in Slack and Gmail whenever a Lemlist email is opened or replied to. If you have any questions, contact our support via chat.
